I meet same problem, and much worse.
Seems each time an external hard drives connect to my laptop, EV will have a full scan that hardisk, and it used to take 10~30 min everytime.
After I start using NAS, it beceome even worse. Maybe for similiar reason, each time I go back home and NAS connect to my laptop (in way that EV can access), or my NAS restart , EV will fullly scan NAS and take 2+ h.
(my EV connect to NAS through Indexes -> floders)
I already set "never rescan", it doesn't work, and a 2+h scan still happens everytime reconnect/restart NAS.
If set rescan daily at 4am, and if laptop is off at that time, seems EV will not skip the rescan, but rescan as soon as I turn on laptop —— and stop me from using EV for hours. (not sure, maybe something else leads to the unscheduled rescan)
Thus, I really need ANY way to use EV while its indexing.
BTW, during scanning, any change in Options will lead to EV Not Responding

I use Version 1.4.1.1026 (x64), and there is'n Debug in my tools, only Connect/Disconnect to ETP, File List Editor, and OptionsEverything should be reindexing from memory and not going to your remote share.
This should only take a few seconds.
Could you please send your Tools -> Debug -> Statistics to support@voidtools.com
This will show the last rebuild reason and more information such as how many files are on your remote share.
BTW, during scanning, any change in Options will lead to EV Not Responding
